D&D Rowa Active Carbon

D&D Rowa Active Carbon

Activated filter carbon in pellet form

Super Grade (Low Phosphate)

Many low cost carbon products on the market place are washed in phosphoric acid as a final stage of their preparation and can release high levels of Phosphate into the water.

Rowa Carbon is an unusually high-performance activated carbon based on the finest quality hard coal and contains extremely low levels of Phosphate

Problems with algae are often caused by the release of phosphate from activated carbon with high POI (Phosphate Output Index) levels - often as high as 14.0, which inhibits lime synthesis in coralline algae, corals and other organisms that deposit lime.

Rowa Carbon is distinguished by its exceptionally low POI level of only 1.3 which is considerably below detection levels of phosphate test kits available to the hobbyist

Suitable for Marine or Freshwater

Hagen A1445 Activated Carbon Fluval

Hagen A1445 Activated Carbon Fluval

Fluval Ultra Grade Carbon
Highly Activated - Absorbs liquefied impurities, removes dyes, medications and odours.

Fluval UltraGrade carbon has been specifically manufactured for aquarium filtration of fresh and marine environments. the internal cell matrix is able to absorb most liquefied impurities and dyes present in aquarium water. Each granule of Fluval UltraGrade Carbon consists of fine, pure carbon granules; it contains no phosphates and will not change pH of aquarium water.

Directions
Fluval Filter Carbon is ideally suited as a fine water scrub and is best placed in low or medium modules. By placing before any biologically specific media, the UltraGrade carbon provides a fine strainer to remove tiny particles and impurities before they can clog the delicate pores and surfaces of bacterial substrates. Fluval UltraGrade Carbon granules are smaller than the Fluval module bottom grid to prevent it from falling through. Use sufficient carbon to fill the module.

Rinse Thoroughly to remove fine dust. before replacing recharged module in filter, submerse carbon for a few minutes to eliminate air trapped within its internal matrix. This eliminates bubbles within the filter. Reassemble filter for operation. Fluval UltraGrade Carbon should be changed once it fails to remove odour and colour from aquarium water. To ensure complete filtration efficiency, monthly or bi-monthly change is recommended, depending on population density.

Note: Do not replace all filter materials simultaneously. Stagger bacterial replacement to ensure that the bacterial population remain viable allowing for rapid re seeding of the filter. When combined with regular water changes, media replacement is most effective. Rinse any media to be re-used in discarded aquarium water as tap water often contains harmful chlorine and/or chlorine that can kill valuable populations of beneficial bacteria.

Seachem Matrix Carbon

Seachem Matrix Carbon

Seachem Matrix Carbon - High Efficiency Spherical Carbon

Seachem Matrix Carbon is a truly unique activated carbon. It is formed as a spherical bead for optimum hydrodynamics, and will not pack. It permits maximum water flow and contact with its high density of macroporous binding sites.

Matrix Carbon has very low ash content as indicated by its minimal impact on pH. Even when added to distilled water, it does not raise pH above 7.0. While all carbons contain phosphate, regardless of false claims to the contrary, Matrix Carbon has the lowest detectable leachable phosphate content of all major carbon brands tested.

Seachem Matrix Carbon outperforms other high grade carbons by at least two-fold when compared for total capacity to remove aquarium organic matter, rate of adsorption, and duration of use.

Why It's Different

While carbon is generally considered to be a chemical filter, that is not precisely true. It is in fact a mechanical filter as well, but it is only capable of mechanically filtering objects of molecular size.

It functions through extremely small cracks and crevices, called macropores and micropores. Microporous carbons remove primarily metals and smaller ions (like trace minerals) and are best suited to air filtration, while macroporous carbons remove primarily larger organic molecules (like nitrogenous waste) and are best suited to water filtration.

The ingredients from which a carbon is manufactured determine whether it will be macroporous or microporous. Carbons made from coconut shell and other organic products form microporous carbons, while carbons made from bituminous coal form macroporous carbons. Seachem Matrix Carbon is a bituminous coal based macroporous carbon. It is the only spherical carbon on the market, allowing for maximum water flow. It is sized to allow full penetration by water, but not small enough to escape filter bags. All carbons contain phosphate. However that phosphate does not come from washing the carbon with phosphoric acid. Most carbons are washed with sulfuric acid. The phosphate is contained in the ash from the carbon source. The main purpose of acid washing is to remove ash.

Because of Matrix Carbon's hydrodynamic properties, more ash is washed from our carbon than any other. Therefore it has the lowest leachable phosphate on the market.

250ml : will easily treat 400 litres (100 galons) for several months.

500ml : will easily treat 800 litres (200 galons) for several months.

4 Litre : will easily treat 6400 litres (1600 galons) for several months.

Direction :

Seachem Matrix Carbon is very clean and nearly dust free. For best results, Matrix Carbon should be placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it. It may be use in a canister filter, chemical filtration module, box filter or any high flow area of a trickle filter.
